Self-management is the CASEL competency responsible for regulating one's emotions, thoughts, and behaviors in different situations. It is the operational mechanism that actually stops a tantrum. However, teaching self-management to a child who is already experiencing blinding anger is completely ineffective. The skill must be developed proactively, long before the emotional trigger occurs in the real world.
Boldness, the green Lurnster who loves exploring different cultures, perfectly illustrates this developmental challenge. His bravery often leads to impulsivity. When Boldness hits an unexpected barrier created by Mr. Obstacle, his immediate impulse is to push harder, which quickly leads to exhaustion and intense frustration. The Professor teaches Boldness self-management by showing him how to pace his energy and strategically step back when an obstacle appears.
By practicing against digital barriers alongside Boldness, children wire their brains to handle actual stress without burning out. You can equip your child with advanced self-management strategies to ensure they handle high-pressure environments constructively.
